Dallol isn’t the hottest place on earth, but it’s well-known as the hottest inhabited city in the world. The average temperature in this sweltering city is a shocking 106 degrees.

 

2.         Wadi Halfa, Sudan

Located on the border of Sudan and Egypt, Wadi Halfa’s highest recorded temperature is a terribly-hot 127 degrees. While it’s not quite hot enough to boil water, it’s getting pretty close!

 

3.         Death Valley, California

You may know that this California desert spot has the highest temperatures in the country, but did you know that it’s officially the hottest place on Earth? The old high was 134 degrees and it was briefly knocked off its pedestal when El Azizia, Libya reached 135. But, as of September 14, 2016, Death Valley has reached a high temperature of 136 degrees and is, once again, the hottest place on Earth.

4.         Lut Desert, Iran

The highest temperature ever recorded in Lut Desert, Iran is 159.3 degrees. You may wonder why it doesn’t have the title of hottest place on Earth, and the answer gets a little complicated. Essentially, that high temperature was discovered by satellite. It’s expected that anyone who tried to take a skin temperature in the region would be instantly burned. So, while it may or may not be the hottest place on Earth, the recorded temperatures there can only be confirmed by satellite and are therefore not contenders.

 

5.         Tirat Zvi, Israel
