Reverse Osmosis Maintenance

Reverse Osmosis System Maintenance & Tune-Ups

Reverse osmosis systems ensure clean, pure water by filtering out hard minerals and impurities that can affect the taste and quality. To keep your system working as it should, we recommend periodic reverse osmosis maintenance and tune-ups to inspect and service all parts of your filtration system.

What are the Components of an RO System?

There are a series of filters that water goes through in a reverse osmosis system. When the water enters the system, it initially flows through a sediment filter. From there, it goes through a pre-carbon filter and then through the RO membrane before entering the storage tank. Finally, the water flows from the reservoir through a post-carbon filter before exiting to your drinking glass.

Each of the stages of the process requires periodic cleaning, maintenance, or replacement to keep your water pure. Our experienced technicians understand what to look for to head off potential problems. They recommend setting up your RO system maintenance and tune-ups on a recurring schedule.

Recommended Maintenance Schedule for RO Systems

Now that you have a better idea of all the parts of the reverse osmosis system, the maintenance schedule will make more sense.

Every Six Months

Your pre-filters are the first barriers that the unfiltered water reaches. They catch the largest particles. Depending on how much water you consume, they can get quite a workout. With the hard water we are used to in Phoenix, it is even more critical to replace the pre-filters at least twice per year.

Once Per Year

After one year, it is time to replace the pre-filters again. In this service, we also recommend replacing the post-filter. The post-filter is responsible for removing any lingering tastes or smells that developed while in the storage tank. The tank pressure will be checked, and the entire system will be cleaned and sanitized to remove any sediment or contaminants.

Every Three to Five Years

The RO membrane removes 99% of all residual contaminants from the water. If you are vigilant about keeping your filters changed regularly, the membrane can last three to five years without being replaced. Sometimes, depending on water conditions and volume, they may need to be changed every one to two years. That’s why it is essential to have our experienced technicians examine your system regularly.
